I run the Center for Mass Spectrometry at Smith College, which supports metabolomics, proteomics, and small-molecule work across the sciences. Day to day that means method development and instrument operation on a Thermo Q Exactive HF-X coupled to nano- and micro-flow LC, consultation on experimental design and sample preparation, and data analysis for faculty and student projects.

Alongside the service work, I build open-source software and hardware for mass spectrometry. I wrote MPACT, a Python tool for processing and dereplicating untargeted LC-MS/MS data, and OpenASAP, a 3D-printed atmospheric solids analysis probe that puts direct-analysis capability on instruments that would not otherwise have it.

Background

BA in Chemical Biology, Wesleyan University. PhD in Chemistry, University of Connecticut, where my dissertation work developed computational approaches to small-molecule mass spectrometry for microbial natural products discovery. I came to Smith in 2022.
